Allow me to clear up all of this CONFUSION!:

-Make/buy cupcakes
-Make/buy icing
-Spread a thin layer of icing on the cupcakes
-Stick like-colored m&ms to the layer
-Use a ribbon icing tip to cover the m&ms in a grid-like fashion
-Use a star tip to frame the cupcake

Then lick everything off the top so that it looks like a naked cupcake again.
