Music Monday: Saves The Day
by Matt Goold
I first listened to Through Being Cool in 2001, my freshman year of high school, and two years after it had been released. It was cool then, and it was cool five years after that, it was cool ten years after that, and it’s still cool now. There’s something just a little more intelligent about Saves The Day, and this album specifically, that is just a cut above the rest when it comes to their pop punk counterparts, and truthfully, the rest of their own discography. The fact is that for a pop punk album that came out in 1999 from a bunch of teenagers, this album should be terrible. But instead, it’s still relevant today, and despite all those things working against them, they made something pretty lasting.
